Subir

What are the advantages of the paid version over the free one?
  • You wouldn't be restricted to 30 minutes per sessions.
  • Permission granted for professional use (free version is restricted to personal and no commercial use).
  • Free updates.
  • Support and personal attention.

If you think Deejaysystem is a good program, just buy it. You will be getting more than just the latest version. You'll feel better because you will be a REAL help to the program's development. Deejaysystem is a personal project. The only means I have to maintain it is the income I get from sales. The price is the cheapest in the market and you receive a truly quality software product.

Subir

What exactly do I get when I buy the software?

You will get an activation code in your email. This code gets rid of the "30 minutes per session" restriction that's included with the DEMO version. Demo versions are available through the Download section.

Deejaysystem is never sent on CD or similar physical medium. This way we can guarantee you're always getting the most up to date version.

Subir

How long does it take to get the activation code?

Immediately if you pay with credit card or Paypal. The activation code is sent to your email as soon as the payment is made.

It will take between 5 and 14 days if you chose to use another payment option (check, bank transfer, ...).

Subir

What happens if I lose my activation code?

You can recover it by using our Automated Key Recovery Service. Your activation code will be automatically re-sent to your email.

Subir

What happens if I am not happy with my purchase?

First we encourage you to intensively test the DEMO versions so you can see if the software fulfills your expectations. Remember that the DEMO versions are free to use, only restricted by the maximum session time (30 minutes). After 30 minutes you have to relaunch the program if you want to start over again.

You can download the DEMO version from our site's Download section.

You still have 30 days after you get the activation code to return the program and get you money refunded.

Subir

I've bought Deejaysystem and now there's a newer version, how can I upgrade?

Download the new DEMO version, and install it in the same location as your Deejasystem is currently installed in. The newer version will automatically make use of your activation code.

Subir

Can I use Deejaysystem in more than one computer?

As it says in the EULA (End User License Agreement) included with the program:

You agree not to install or use any individual Key on more than one computer at a time. However, you may install an individual copy simultaneously on one computer at work, one computer at home, and one portable computer, IF (and ONLY if) all these computers are used primarily by the same individual, and there is no possibility that the computers will be in use at the same time except while you are actively transferring files between them.

If you want to use Dejaysystem on more than one machine (for example, you manage two clubs and want to make use of Deejaysystem on both of them) you have to get one license per computer.

My activation key doesn't work

Activation keys are generated by an automated process that ensures them to be valid keys. Activation problems are typically caused by one of these causes:

  • Misspelling errors. Copy - paste the name and the key directly from the email you've received to the activation dialog in Deejaysystem.
  • System's clock has a wrong date. Ensure that Window's clock is properly set to current date and time before opening Deejaysystem.
  • You're using a limited user account. Try login as Administrator and then activating Deejaysystem. Once activated, it could be used with any account.
  • Some software is blocking changes at the registry. Try disabling antivirus and anti-spyware software (i.e. Windows Defender) while activating Deejaysystem. Once activated you can re-enable your security software and use it normally.

2. Playing video

Can I watch and mix videos on a unique screen?

Yes. With one screen you can press ALT-Enter to go to full screen mode. Press ESC or ALT-Enter again to get back.

If you mix videos manually, you'll have to swap frequently between normal and full screen mode. In AutoPlay mode you can set the program on full screen and forget about it.

Subir

Can I play Flash animations or PowerPoint presentations?

Not natively, but you can convert Flash animations or PowerPoint presentations to video using tools like PPT To Video Scout and SWF To Video Scout, and use the resulting videos.

Subir

Can I play DVDs "on the fly"?

You can play any non-encrypted content. To play DVDs just drag and drop the .VOB files.

If the content is encrypted or you experience problems trying to play it directly, you need to store the DVD contents on your hard drive (see next question). Playing files from the hard drive is always faster and safer than using an optical device (DVD, CD).

Subir

How can I copy my DVDs to the hard drive?

Use one of the many tools available. Some tools we recommend:

Subir

Can I record my video mixing sessions?

Yes, but you need a screen capture software product which will record the mixed video to a file on the hard drive. Some recommendations:

How to install two identical sound cards

The main problems you will face are related to the joystick port and the compatibility option with old software (ms-dos). These elements require system specific resources (port, irq, dma) which tend to conflict when two or more sound cards are installed. It's recommended that you deactivate both the joystick port and the compatibility option to resolve conflicts. You can do this from Window's Device Manager.

Additional comments:

  • Creative sound cards call this compatibility option "legacy emulation".
  • Drivers should be installed once. They run for the two (or more) cards.
  • Some drivers aren't ready to support more than one sound card, this problem is because of the bad design of the drivers and it's pretty common on Creative sound cards.

Subir

How can I take advantage of the two SB-Live/Audigy/etc outputs?

Install KX drivers (www.kxproject.com).

These are alternative drivers for Creative and E-Mu sound cards. This way, Creative's cards will provide you a with a separate device for each output, so you can configure them on Deejaysystem as you wish.

Subir

Can I use sound cards with multiple outputs?

Yes, but you can't realize its full potential. Sadly most of the sound cards with multiple outputs offer just one DirectSound device. Right now Deejaysystem can only handle DirectSound devices, so you can not take advantage of the multiple outputs.

Future enhancements are planned to develop multiple output support for this devices. This way it will be possible to use multiple outputs independently.

Subir

Can I prelisten (preview) and mix with just one sound card?

Yes. Deejaysystem is capable of separate left and right channel from the physical output. For example: Master can be heard through the right channel and be monitored through the left channel.

You can accomplish this from the audio configuration, defining each channel (left - right - both) as to how you would you like to hear it (Master or Monitor).

Subir

Can I record my audio mixing sessions?

Yes, but Deejaysystem doesn't provide this function out of the box. You will need additional software to do this (Musicmatch Jukebox, Cool Edit, Gold Wave) and possibly extra cable conections will be required to connect the Master output to the Line-in.

It is possible to record directly from the sound card output with Total Recorder (www.highcriteria.com).

4. About Deejaysystem: philosophy and development

What is (and what's not) Deejaysystem?

Deejaysystem is an audio and video player specifically design to meet the needs of the professional discjockey / videojockey during live sessions.

Deejaysystem is NOT a way "to mix like a deejay wannabe. even if you're not one". You have to be a real DJ, or at least trying to be one, to get the most from the software. You are the DJ so you have the control, not the software.

Subir

Why is Deejaysystem different from other DJ software programs?

As opposed to other programs which aim to stick every functionality they could think of in the product, Deejaysystem looks to have only the necessary elements to make a good live session. Some of the advantages for this approach are:

  • Deejaysystem functionality is easily available, accessible, and intuitive. It does what it's supposed to do and it does it right.
  • Deejaysystem is extremely solid and trustworthy, no matter what the situation (tested).
  • System resources needed to use Deejaysystem are minimal, so you can run other programs in the same machine at the same time.

Subir

This software seems too simple, where is its so called power?

It can be seen:

  • in the functionality it offers
  • in its handy interface
  • in its capability to customize every functionality
  • in its speed and precision (only comparable to physical devices, like CD players, and is superior in some cases)

Other programs seem to be more complex and powerful because they try put on the screen as many functions as possible, with buttons, wheels and so on. Most of these functions are useless in a real scenario. The mouse is the most uncomfortable and imprecise device to use in a live session. In many cases, Deejaysystem offers more (and more useful) functions than other software products.

On the configuration screen (Settings > Control > Edit) you could see the Deejaysystem functions grouped by categories. Each and every single one could be assigned to any device you could imagine (keyboard, joystick, Hercules DJ ... this includes combinations with Ctrl, Shift or Alt keys). Try to connect a joystick and see for yourself the control you have with just two axis, two buttons and the Ctrl/Shift keys.

Subir

What is the philosophy behind Deejaysystem development?

The user feedback and the authors criteria as a professional DJ.

Every new function is carefully studied to determine its practical usefullness. Special attention is given to trying to find out the best way to incorporate new functionality. Then, it is developed and tested until it's completely functional. At this point it is included in the Deejaysystem main program. Finally, a test in real conditions is made (live session) to be sure about the advantages this new function can offer to the product.

Subir

Why not add equalization / sound effects / etc?

The main goal of Deejaysystem is to play music/video in live sessions, Because of that, its design has been structured around the use of an external mixer. Functions like equalization or sound effects are secondary objectives, although it's planned to build extra functionality to Deejaysystem by a plug-in system.

Any DJ mixer offers equalization options to use in a live session. Many of them add sound effects too. So the best way to realize Deejaysystems full potential is in combination with a mixer.

Subir

I would like Deejaysystem to be able to play "x" format

Deejaysystem supports every BASS library plug-in. Some of them come with the standard Deejaysystem distribution. To add new ones just copy them to the Plugins directory, under the installation path, and restart the program.

NOTE: Deejaysystem only supports BASS plugins related to new audio formats. New functionality or sound effects plugins are ignored.

It is possible to play any video provided the right codec is installed on your system. We encourage you to install the K-Lite Codec Pack Deejaysystem Edition (here) to be sure you have support for the most common formats.

Subir

Is there a Linux or Mac version?

No, but Deejaysystem can run in Mac with one of these methods:

  • Install Windows with the Boot Camp Assistant, included in Mac OS X.
  • Use a Virtual Machine with Parallels Desktop (it can run the same Windows installed with Boot Camp).
  • Run Deejaysystem directly under Mac OS X with Wine.

Note: Under Parallels Desktop Deejaysystem Video VJ2 will run in single screen mode only. Parallels Desktop doesn't support multiple displays in virtual machines.

Note 2: Under Wine Deejaysystem Video VJ2 won't show any video output at all, only audio. This is caused by a bug in the Apple X11 application included in Mac OS X (More information).

Under Linux Deejaysystem should run properly using Wine. DirectX 9 must be installed for running Deejaysystem Video VJ2.
