1. Solutions to video problems

The videos do not load (Format not supported) or they play poorly

To load and play videos requires that compatible codecs are installed in Windows. Codec is the compressor-decompressor abbreviation. Each video format requires its own codec so that it can be played. Some common video formats do not need additional codecs because these are already supported in Windows (example: videos in Windows Media Format for Video, WMV)

In order to obtain the maximum compatibility and better performance with the videos we recommend that you uninstall other codecs and install K-Lite Codec Pack Deejaysystem Edition (available here). This package installs a set of codecs specifically designed to work efficiently and play videos with Deejaysystem. In addition, should you wish to deinstall the codecs, you will be able to and leave your system as it was before the codecs were installed.

Before installing this package, it is important to deinstall codecs that you already have installed on the system. Go to the Control Panel Start> > Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the following elements if they are present:

  • Others “codec packs”, including any other version of the K-Lite Codec Pack.
  • Elements such as “decoder to filter”, “DirectShow to filter”, “codec”, “ffdshow”, etc. including codecs and decoders of DivX (this pack is inlcuded in the K-Lite Codec Pack).

Note: If you need a player to see your videos and DVDs we recommended the free player Media Player Classic.

Note 2: In order to play QuickTime videos (MOV, QT) follow these instructions.

Note 3: In order to play Karaoke (MP3+G, BIN…) you need the free codec for Karaoke DirectX 3,0 beta 3. In order play files of type MP3+G you must play the MP3, NOT the CDG. It will be detected and it will play like Karaoke.

To raise

The videos blink, they slow down or they are blocked
  1. Make sure that you have installed codecs suitable for the video format that you are trying to play.
Also make sure you have installed the last version of drivers for your graphics card.
  2. Verify that your equipment has sufficient resources to play your videos.

    - The videos with higher resolution need more resources (CPU and video memory).
    - Some formats need more resources to decode themselves, even in low quality.
    - You can increase the playback performance by reducing the quality of the video previews in Deejaysystem VJ2 (Settings > Video).
  3. If you use two screens, open the Control Panel > Display> Settings and verify the following:

    - The monitor marked as [2] must be extended or dual desktop view (click in [2] > “Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor”).
    - Both monitors [1] and [2] must have the color quality set to highest (32 bits).
    - > Both screens must have the same refresh rate (Advanced > Monitor; repeat for both screens [1] and [2]). The screens should have their refresh rate set to at least 75 Hertz.

To raise

Loading a video produces “jumping” or freezing in the videos already loaded

The most probable cause is that some software is slowing down the access to the files on the hard disk. Possible solutions:

  • Disable your antivirus software, or use an antivirus that does not slow down the system. For example, the NOD32 anti-virus uses very little resources. If your anti-virus software is Kapersky then we recommend you to uninstall it and move to another one as soon as possible.
  • Deinstall all the video software that you do not use (editors, players, etc), since sometimes these install additional codecs.
  • For video codecs, install only K-Lite Codec Pack Deejaysystem Edition and, it you need it, QuickTime Alternative Deejaysystem Edition or Karaoke 3,0 DirectX beta 3. The fewer codecs you have installed, the faster it will load the videos and more stable the videos already loaded will play.

To raise

I cannot see the second screen video output in full screen mode

First make sure that you have correctly connected the second screen and that the screen is powered on. Normally the second screen can be:

  • a monitor connected to the VGA/DVI connector on the graphics card (in graphics cards with dual outputs VGA or DVI)
  • a television or connected projector when connected to the graphics card(RCA for Composite video or S-Video connector).

Start the program. At the beginning it will detect the secondary monitor automatically and it will offer the option to activate it. Click YES.

It is possible to activate the secondary screen manually and configure the specific options (ex. resolution, refresh rate) in Start> Control Panel > Display> Settings. More information

To raise

Everything works well with a screen, but with two they remain both in black

With nVidia video cards it is necessary to open the configuration panel for the card and to deactivate the option “Full Screen Device”.

  1. Start > Control Panel > Display
  2. Click the "Settings" tab
  3. Click the "Advanced" button
  4. Click the "GeForce" tab
  5. Click on the "Overlay Controls" item in the left hand menu
  6. Make sure "Full Screen Device" is set to "Disable"
  7. Click "Apply" and close the display settings dialogs

Now everything should be working correctly.

NOTE: The above instructions may not be accurate because of changes on nVidia control panel interface.

To raise

The QuickTime videos (MOV, QT) do not load or they play poorly
  1. Close Deejaysystem VJ2.
  2. In Windows, click Start> > Control Panel> > Add./Remove programs to unintall the programs. Deinstall QuickTime Player, if it is installed. You can leave the other Apple programs like iTunes installed.
  3. Download and instal QuickTime Alternative Deejaysystem Edition. Be sure to follow the installation instructions carefully. It is not necessary to restart the computer.

You should now be able to open and mix QuickTime videos with Deejaysystem VJ2.

Notes:

  • QuickTime Alternative Deejaysystem Edition contains codecs and drivers for QuickTime for compatibility with Deejaysystem VJ2. Deinstalling will completely remove the application.
  • If you use the K-Lite Codec Pack Deejaysystem Edition you will have to install it prior to installing QuickTime Alternative. If you have done it the other way around deintalk both and reinstall again in the correct order: first K-Lite, then QuickTime.
  • If you want to see QuickTime videos without using Deejaysystem we recommended the this free player to you Media Player Classic.
  • The Web pages that contain QuickTime videos will continue working normally.

To raise

Videos MPEG show horizontal bars in scenes with movement

It's an interlaced video. In order to solve it you must have installed K-Lite Codec Pack Deejaysystem Edition in Performance Mode. This pack installs a deinterlacing filter.

You can activate the deinterlacing filter manually here:

Start> All the programs > K-Lite Codec Pack > Configuration > ffdshow > Video to decoder configuration > Deinterlacing. The recommended method is Cubic interpolation.

To raise

Some videos show the wrong duration and in AUTO-PLAY they are mixed prematurely

Deejaysystem VJ2 asks the codec for the duration of each video. If codec indicates a non-precise value, Deejaysystem cannot do anything other than use that value. The duration will also be used to mix the videos in AUTO-PLAY mode, reason why they could be mixed before time.

The only solution is to install a different codec for the video format that gives the problem. If you use the K-Lite Codec Pack Deejaysystem Edition you can try to deinstall it and to reinstall it in the opposite way (Performance <-> Compatibility).

2. Solutions to audio problems

Files M4P of iPod do not load (Format not supported)

You must convert them to MP3. Format M4P uses protection and it can only be played in iTunes and IPod under Apple's DRM licensing.

In order to turn the M4P to MP3:

  1. Use iTunes for recording the M4P songs in a conventional audio CD.
  2. Copy that CD to mp3 files using iTunes or any other CD-ripping software (ex. CDEX).

To raise

Some files in WIndows Media Format (WMA, WMV) get error protected File (DRM)

In order to play these files you need to have its corresponding license installed in your equipment.

Open each file once using Microsoft Media Player and this will show the instructions to obtain and to install each license. With the licenses installed already you can close Media Player and open the files in Deejaysystem.

My external controller does not work

Numark DMC-1, Visiosonic DAC-2/DAC-3, Hercules DJ, Behringer BCD-2000…

  1. Make sure that the controller is supported by Deejaysystem. More information
  2. Verify that the drivers for your controller are installed and updated to the last version. In some cases the firmware for the controller must also be updated.
  3. Close Deejaysystem.
  4. Disconnect all USB devices from your equipment, including mouse and keyboard if they are USB. If your controller hardware has a power button, turn it off.
  5. Connect and power on your devices.

Now they would have to work correctly with Deejaysystem. When you open the program, the controller should illuminate all lights shortly after starting the program. That means that it has been detected and initialized correctly.

If it still does not work then perhaps it has been misconfigured. in Deejaysystem, open Settings > Control and click the Defaults... button to recover the original configuration.
